Tour Description: Designed for those who want to combine the passion of cooking and cuisine along with unforgettable surroundings, our Art of Italian Cooking and Cuisine tour combines the best of both. The rich, multi-layered yet simple flavors of Italy are almost as universally beloved as the Ponte Vecchio and Michelangelo’s David. Join us as we explore two culinary and cultural giants of Italy: the regions of Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany.
Known as the birthplace of classic Italian cuisine, the region of Emilia-Romagna holds delicious treats for the eyes as well as the stomach: proscuitto di Parma, balsamico di Modena, parmesano reggiano, classic Bolognese sauces, as well as the beautiful city of Bologna, with its endless pedestrian marble arcades, Italy’s oldest University, and the unfinished Basilica di San Petronio, whose plans had to be scaled back after the Vatican declared that they could not build a church larger than St. Peter’s in Rome. From here we will then move on to explore the best of the picturesque Tuscan countryside and the cities of this historical giant of Italy, including the vistas of the rolling hills of Chianti, the works of Michelangelo and Botticelli, the Ponte Vecchio, the Duomo of Siena, and many others. In both regions we will sample the famed local cheeses, sausages, and cured meats, take classes from resident experts, and explore the creation of local olive oil and balsamic vinegar while taking in all of the history and beauty this area.
